Cork Decoy Blocks

Cork decoys have been proven to be the most effective decoys available, suitable to both amateur and professional carvers. Jelinek carving blocks are specifically formulated in a density to maximize detailed carving, clean paint/color applications, and precise natural float distribution. Cork combines the durability and flotation requirements of a hunting decoy with the likeness of the species. Jelinek cork decoys stand up to the trauma of everyday hunting – even being shot with stray pellets from time to time.

The following two types of cork are generally used for making decoys:

High Density Tan Cork

Dense enough for easy carving yet remains lightweight, durable, and functional. This type of cork is used by carving amateurs, professional craftsmen and artisans requiring a high degree of detail. It’s one of the easiest carving materials to work with as small granules of cork prevent chipping when carving. The precise density permits an ease of carving that isn’t available with most other materials.

Blocks are available in three primary thicknesses: 4″ (standard), 5″, 6″ (used for carving larger birds such as a goose)

Standard size: 24″ x 36″  (normally will produce between 8-11 birds)
Also available in: 9″ x 12″

Low Density Dark Brown (Black) Cork

Economically priced. Blocks are light in weight and very buoyant with slightly larger grains than the high density blocks. Due to its low density, it is easy to carve but does not allow for the same high degree of detail achieved with high density blocks. These low density cork blocks are used primarily for “functional” decoy makers and are therefore often used when producing decoys in large quantities.

Blocks are available in two primary thicknesses: 4″ and 5”

Standard size: 24″ x 36″  (normally will produce between 8-11 birds)
Also available in: 9″ x 12″
