Cork Coverings for Walls and Ceilings

Cork coverings are a naturally decorative and modern alternative to traditional coverings.

They are available in a wide variety of unique patterns and shades to compliment any décor or furniture style, and will add character and warmth to any room. Outstanding room designs are created by using cork to accent or contrast walls or ceilings.

Additionally, whether in tile form or roll form, besides being decorative cork coverings are also functional. Available in a variety of sizes and thicknesses, these decorative coverings can also serve as tack and pin boards without damage to the cork. Ideal for offices, children’s rooms, and any other area where pinups are wanted.

The natural tones and shading of cork coverings can be kept or altered. There are basically four choices:

• Plain natural surface - The cork is left in it’s natural state with no stains or surface treatments. This is often the case for elegant but subtle décor effects.
• Waxed cork surface - Some coverings are available with a natural waxed surface treatment. The wax enhances and highlights the natural textures, tones, and patterns of the cork and at the same time provides grime protection to the cork.
• Staining - Many of the cork coverings can be easily color stained to match or highlight existing room décor. The use of water based wood stains allows the natural cork patterns to remain while permitting the cork to match an infinite spectrum of colors. Pre-waxed tiles cannot be stained.
• Painting – Cork can be painted if it is not already waxed. Painting of cork is seldom done since the natural patterns, textures and tones would be lost. However if cork is used for insulation purposes only and if the desired effect is not to show the natural color tones then cork can be painted.

Maintenance & General Installation Procedures

No special maintenance is required for wall and ceiling coverings. If needed, simply wipe with a damp cloth as you would any wall or ceiling.

Installing cork walls and ceilings is simple. Although installation procedures may vary slightly depending on job sites and the coverings used, there are general procedures similar for all installations. Acoustical wall and ceiling panels
Specially formulated decorative cork panels with excellent acoustic and insulating qualities. Acoustic cork tiles are multipurpose. Ideal as wall and ceiling coverings, perfect as bulletin boards from one panel to a whole wall, and excellent insulators for both sound and temperature. The tile surface is treated with wax to repel dust and to augment the look of the tile. They are ½” (13mm) in thickness and are available with or without self-adhesive backing.

Standard cork wall & ceiling tiles
Cork wall and ceiling tiles will creatively compliment your imaginative and decorative ideas. They provide an interesting mix of a traditional environmentally “green” natural material resulting in modern and sophisticated décor. These tiles are warmly textured and available in various shades and patterns.

Tackboard wall and ceiling panels
These decorative wall tiles are the perfect solution for a decorative yet functional full or part wall, tackboard or bulletin board. Ideal for pinning posters, children’s drawings or memos. They are ¼” (6mm) thick, designed to hold tacks or push pins. These panels are available with or without a self-adhesive backing.

Cork wall paper
Cork wallpaper has all the natural beauty of cork. Cork wallpaper rolls are easy to apply using any common brand of wallpaper paste and following the same care as with conventional papers. In addition to the rich and unique texture, cork wallpaper adapts to all atmospheres and adds a special touch of comfort due to its ecological and natural properties.

Cork rolls & designer cork rolls
Composition cork rolls are an ideal covering for full walls, wall partitions, above and around office desks, by telephones or on refrigerators …. anywhere where pushpins are being used or notes and memos being left. Designer cork rolls maintain their natural cork characteristics but with the added effect of colored pigments surrounding each of the cork grains. The subtle coloring provides a decorative and unique wall covering or bulletin board facing. Available in ¼” (6mm thickness) in red, green, blue, and natural tones.

Insulation tiles These cork tiles are naturally dark (nearly black) in color and although designed for insulation purposes they do have multifunctional uses. Possessing excellent heat/cold insulation properties they also can simultaneously function as wall/ceiling tiles and tackboards. They are available in several different sizes and thicknesses. Since they are meant primarily for insulation purposes they do initially release a small “burnt cork” smell which will dissipate over time.

Virgin bark cork wall tiles These are the most unique of all tiles. They are individually produced directly from the bark of the cork oak tree. The virgin bark is naturally dramatic, rich and warm, soft to the touch. It is as durable as Mother Nature meant bark to be. Besides walls and ceilings, bark tiles can also be used has highlighting areas for dramatic effect – sides of desks or cabinets, pillars, in plant areas or wherever nature should come indoors.
